Forbes Riley:

Permission to Change Direction

Episode 163: #DroppingBombs with The Real Brad Lea (TRBL)

Episode 163: Forbes Riley

Successful people don’t ask for permission.

Forbes Riley has a unique way of helping people see how to get rid of their baggage and move forward. If you feel stuck in life and are yearning to make a change, don’t miss this chance to learn how you can claim what’s yours in this world.

Forbes Riley was an ugly duckling.

I had a broken nose, frizzy hair, full braces for eight years, and I was overweight and I was really smart, which made me the least popular kid in class.

To escape her reality, Forbes would watch television and movies and dream about a life that was different than the one she had.

An industrial accident sliced off her father’s hand…

He spent three years in the hospital , and we were completely broke. But you know, it’s funny, I didn’t know it. My parents were so loving and I just knew we didn’t have a lot, but we were never homeless.

Because of her father’s medical costs, Forbes’ mother told her that they didn’t have the money to send her to college.

Her mom encouraged Forbes to enter a pageant that awarded college funds to the winner…

My Dad’s doctor overheard this, and they offered to fix my nose when I was 15 years old. It’s kind of funny what a nose can do for you! All of a sudden I got kind of cute, and I cut my hair in a lost a little bit of weight.

Forbes went on to win Miss Teenage, New York in the Miss Teenage America pageant on television with Bob Hope in Oklahoma.

Forbes went to college to be a lawyer, but a drama teacher gave her permission to switch directions.

He sat me down and he said, ‘ don’t think you realize who you are. You have this power. This strength and depth that I’ve never seen.’ Maybe it’s because of all this stuff I went through as a little kid, but the cool thing about professor David Richmond, he was 100% legally blind. He couldn’t see everything that people were fixated on, and he told me who It really was rad.

Forbes left college, headed to New York, auditioned for her first movie, got the lead role, and never looked back.

After getting the lead in a TV series, Forbes was forced to change direction again.

At the 11th hour, Fox comes to me and said, hey, you know what? You’re not famous enough to carry the show. We’re going to replace you with Bo Derek. Then, my agent calls when was office the next day and said, hey, I’m gonna let you go.

Her agent told her to build a personal brand, but Forbes didn’t even know what that meant at the time.

To date, Forbes Riley has sold over 2.5 billion dollars worth of products.

I started back when infomercials started. The biggest one was the Jack Lalanne juicer. That changed my life. That one show, that one interview that we did in Toronto, Canada in 2003 right after my kids were born, grossed $1 billion in sales in 80 countries in eight years.

Her upcoming book, What have you Forbes’d lately?, will encourage others to manifest the impossible. Connect with Forbes Riley on 360.com and tell her what you’ve Forbes’d lately!
