Episode 117: Josh Elizetxe

There’s always a market for best.

How did Josh Elizetxe go from a blog to building sites with 15,000,000 visitors each month? From the age of 13, Josh had a mind for making money. Learn how he went from working at the public library to charging millions to manage corporate ad spend in just a few years.

Josh Elizetxe has been a success since the age of 13.

I wanted to make some money. So, I learned how to program. We didn’t have a computer at home, so I learned how to program at the library.

He started making websites.

First, I built my own blog. Then, I got an email from a company that said, ‘Hey, we want to advertise on your blog.’ I had no idea what that meant. So, I went to Google and searched ‘advertise on a blog,’ and found Google’s AdSense.

Those guys ended up paying Josh 400 bucks next month. Then, they sent him another 400. I thought, “Hey, something’s up here.” Then, they sent him another 400 bucks… just to put the banner on his blog site. That was when Josh realized he’d found a way to make money.

Then, a client offered to pay Josh monthly for marketing.

I went and read every book I could on copywriting, sales, marketing, and eventually internet marketing. Because I didn’t have the money to advertise, the only thing I could do at the time was search engine optimization. So I said, ‘I have to become the best at search engine optimization.’ And, that’s what I did.

Josh found freelancer.com and eLance and started to hire remote teams to help with development since sales and marketing were where he was making the majority of the money.

Josh started to transition from SEO to AdWords.

I was charging 20,000 to 50,000 a month for Google AdWords. It’s weird charging anywhere between 10-30% of a company’s ad spend to manage, but I got to spend well over a hundred million dollars of other people’s money learning exactly what would work. And, that’s why I decided to hone in on the beauty, tech, and software area because that’s where the highest margins were.

Those high margins came with high competition, but Josh Elizetxe had the confidence in his skills to try.

He then decided to automate ad spend management, selling it as a white label service to other agencies.

We went from managing 10 million to 100 million faster than going from zero to 10 million because we took smaller fees and we went to these PR and traditional media companies whose clients were interested in moving their money from billboards to online advertisements.

Josh Elizetxe had always wanted to create a physical product, so he took the money from his advertising business and used it to create SNOW, a revolutionary at-home teeth whitening kit that’s affordable, easy, and convenient.
