Episode #321: Understanding Your True Identity & Mindset in this Episode of Dropping Bombs with The Real Brad Lea (TRBL)
“You can’t get rich making poor choices.” – Brad Lea
Shifting Your Mindset And Understanding Your True Identity
Understanding your true identity starts with a self-examination process that Anthony Trucks created called The Hard Formula. Explaining to first identify your: HABITS, ACTIONS, REACTIONS, and DRIVERS. Then examine and unpack these in six key areas of your life:
- Your Beliefs
- Your Thoughts
- Your Actions
- Your Habits
- Your Mindset
- Your Personal Pride
The way Anthony Trucks explains understanding your true identity means taking responsibility for your life and your actions. Before he began living into that realization in his life things continued to be a struggle for him.
“I was the common denominator in all my problems.” – Anthony Trucks
Once Trucks started shifting his mindset he realized taking responsibility for your life is the road to the freedom of letting go. Righting his wrongs, the Former NFL Linebacker began forgiving others that he was holding grudges with, taking the time to forgive himself, having the tough conversations face-to-face with the people he needed to forgive. He recalls spending the time staring at the wall while thinking it through before taking the next set of actions beyond, understanding and responsibility… It was in these moments Anthony Trucks discovered his willingness to forgive himself and others, over tough past situations and circumstances. By shifting his mindset to fully “taking responsibility for your life” he began shifting his identity, reshaping the character of who he was inside.
Taking Responsibility For Your Actions And Your Life
Growing up with a weird identity and not really knowing who he was at adolescence. Anthony Trucks went through the foster care system and had some really abusive experiences. At 14 he was adopted, and began playing football. Trucks says he was fortunate to get a college scholarship for football and then got drafted by the Steelers.
Anthony Trucks played 3 years and then had a shoulder injury, watching his team go to the Super Bowl from the couch at home wondering what to do with the rest of his life after football in the NFL.
Had 3 kids by 26 years of old. His wife left and he was evicted from his home.
Reaching his rock bottom dark moments and going through the motions. By 2014 his mother had passed from M.S. Anthony Trucks had failed businesses and it was the moment he examined and executed on taking responsibility for his life regardless of the situations he put himself in. Realizing he was not who he wanted to be. That’s when Trucks found “Owning Your Shift” as the bridge to shifting your mindset, taking responsibility for your life and understanding your true identity.

Shifting Your Mindset So You Can Own Your Shift & Discover Your True Identity
Just shifting a few things can make a massive change. Anthony Trucks says he realized after long hours of self-reflection and asking who he is… This process is a metaphor is what he calls “the downloading of the information” which shaped his life and showed him the things he needed to go to work to fix that he did not like about who he was in his life. The next part of the puzzle is what he calls “the uploading” which for Anthony Trucks was having the tough conversations with you also the people you are avoiding—the uploading was owning it, doing it, and having the moment even if it was difficult.
It was from these insights OWN. YOUR. SHIFT. was born, and it means:
OWN = Take Ownership or Responsibility
YOUR = YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE no matter if it is things that happened to you that were outside your control… Own Your Shift!
SHIFT = Making The Shift By Taking The Action To Have The Tough Face-To-Face Conversations With Yourself And Others
Take the responsibilities to save yourself and do the work.
Anthony Trucks says in an airplane a 1% shift can take you 1000’s miles away. Brad Lea agrees that if you are running life in first gear you need to make a shift to do more and get better. Everybody has another gear to shift into!
